IN ORDER TO MAKE AN INFORMED HIRING DECISION, HERE IS SOME ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND INFO THAT YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING.  🙂

IN THE BEGINNING...
I started doing handyman work 2 years ago out of necessity. In 2017 I suffered a stroke. Thank God I've had a remarkable recovery. However I was forced to go on disability. My monthly income covers my expenses but for additional income and to keep busy I started this little side hustle.
It may suprise you but I actually started my work career as a computer programmer after receiving my degree from the University of Virginia (I transferred to UVA). GO CAVALIERS !!    I bought my first house during this time and proceeded to remodel the kitchen (installing cabinets, an island, new fixtures, etc.) and created additional living space in the unfinished basement (building walls, sheet rock, adding electrical, lighting and plumbing.)
After 20 years sitting in an office writing code, I found myself between jobs. (Life happens 🫤) With baby on the way and in need of income, I signed up to be a satellite technician. It was then that I realized that working outside an office and with with my hands was much more satisfying. It is also quite the learning experience. I installed satellite dishes, ran cable in attics, crawl spaces and behind walls. I also mounted flat screen TVs on walls. My knowledge of the structure of a house expanded greatly.
Long before any of that work is where the gentleman pictured here comes to play -- my grandfather. He made his living as an independent general contractor. It was with him that I oringinally learned to use tools and gained a range of skills. Spending part of the summer months with my granddad building and fixing stuff gave me great satisfaction and instilled in me the love of working with my hands (miss you Granddaddy.)Â
So there you have it, more information than you'll ever need. But my purpose is to give a sense of who I am and the pride that I take in my work. I don't cut corners. At the same time I look for practical solutions that won't cripple your finances--exactly what I'd do if it was my own home.
